Trekking Preparation

Physical Preparation

You do not need to be a super athlete nor a mountaineer to trek but a few weeks of regular physical activity prior to arriving in Nepal, will enhance your trekking experience. It is not particularly enjoyable to spend the trip of a lifetime struggling up and down the trails, when a little preparation beforehand would make the experience so much more rewarding.

It is worth being in a good physical condition before you start your trek and the best way to achieve this is to do a lot of walking in the weeks preceding your holiday. Walk upstairs rather than take a lift, walk or cycle when you would normally drive or ride a bus, take the dog for a walk. Jogging and aerobics are also great. Running a few miles most days is probably the best single physical activity to enhance your fitness level and to prepare you for trekking. While you are training you can also be breaking in those new trekking boots that may otherwise give you blisters on the first day out on the trail if not previously worn.

Mental Preparation

Please also prepare mentally for Nepal. It will be good if you try to find out as much as possible about Nepal’s customs and especially about the particular area of your trek. Nepal is culturally different to your country and traditions as well as daily life looks very differently to what you’re used to. Facilities are also not up to the same standard as in your country, especially in the mountains. Your accommodation, toilet and shower facilities while on the trekking trail will be shared and very basic - get used to this idea before the trek and prepare mentally. Toilets are mostly squatting toilets, shower is common and very basic, some places have a hot shower available. There is no heating in the bedrooms in teahouses so a personal hot water bag goes a long way in the winter.

Our yoga treks are generally group treks and we request everyone to prepare to be mindful of other fellow trekkers, to have understanding, compassion and to be friendly. Everyone's individual attitude determines the atmosphere in the group and this impacts on the entire trekking experience. We are all responsible for the group's general mood. If you're trekking in a company of friends, family or your significant other, please be open and friendly with the rest of the group and contribute to the team spirit.

Yoga trek schedule follows according to the circumstances and weather and it may be changeable. Your safety is of paramount concern while trekking with us and for this reason your leader has the authority to amend any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. We will make every effort to keep to the original itinerary but this adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions and we need to always be prepared for the unexpected. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters etc. can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.

It is our greatest joy to make this experience an unforgettable one for you and we are here to assist in every possible way. Please communicate with us prior to your trek and during your trek with any questions, concerns or requests and we will always do our best to help as much as we can, this is our guarantee to you. If you want or need anything at any time, all you have to do is ask your guide and he or she will, when possible, organize it for you.
